Malcolm Lead Law Protest

Malcolm Smith Taking Lead Law Matters Into His Own Hands

By Michael Hannas

Industry icon Malcolm Smith is sick and tired of waiting for government officials to figure out that lead in children's motorcycles does not pose a safety hazard to the youths.  In what can be classified as more than a simple protest, Malcolm Smith has decided that on this Thursday, March 19, he WILL SELL the banned children's motorcycles and ATV's, damn the lead laws!  Jeremy McGrath, Jeff Ward, and Troy Lee have already announced their plans to purchase some of the banned youth motorcycles from Malcolm Smith Motorsports during the protest, with many more enthusiasts poised to do the same.  Whatever consequences that will come out of Smith's protest are yet to be determined, but at this point Malcolm is prepared to deal with it in order to get the word out.  Come out and support the effort.  Details are below.

Why: In defiance of the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008 which prohibits the sale of youth motorcycles and ATVs deemed unhealthy for children under 12 due to suspected high-levels of lead content, motorcycle dealer Malcolm Smith will sell these banned vehicles as a sign of protest. As a sign of support, a group of small business people and high-profile motorcycle industry celebrities, including racers Jeff Ward and Jeremy McGrath, Glen Helen Raceway owner Bud Feldkamp, and motorsport design guru Troy Lee have all agreed to be on hand to purchase banned units for use by their own children and grandchildren.
