Ducati Testing Carbon Fiber Swingarm On GP9 Along With Carbon Chassis
By Michael Hannas
In addition to an all-new carbon-composite chassis on Ducati's new GP9 MotoGP weapon, Casey Stoner also tried out a carbon fiber swingarm during the recent Qatar Night Tests.

Lapping at about a second per lap faster than his closet rivals, Stoner reportedly set his best times while trying out the composite swinging-arm on the GP9. Carbon chassis and swingarms are nothing new, but they are a new development for MotoGP machinery, and once again Ducati is pushing the envelope in developing this new technology instead of the Japanese factories. It remains to be seen if Ducati's carbon fiber "head-start" over their Japanese rivals will result in the same domination that occured in 2007, when they pushed the development of their traction control and engine management systems to the level the other teams are all still trying to reach. With Stoner easily topping the field in Qatar in his first test with the swingarm, we wouldn't bet against it.
