2WheelTimes Long Term Review: Alpinestars Tech 10
By Doug Byers
2WheelTimes tried to get our hands on a pair of the latest generation Tech 10’s from Alpinestars for this review, unfortunately the manufacturer was only able to provide us with a press release and pictures at this time...

Nevertheless, we are going to share with you the PR stuff they sent over and a long term review of my 16-month-old pair of Tech 10’s.
The crew at 2WheelTimes believes in protecting our bodies with the best equipment made. Whether it's helmets, goggles, gloves, knee braces or boots, our future mobility depends on their ability to fend off danger as designed and hopefully provide the user (you & me) no trips to the hospital!
As most of you already know riding motorcycles is a contact sport whether you want it to be or not. Heads up you newbies out there. ” It’s not if, it’s when.” So prepare yourselves accordingly with the proper protective equipment and dress for the occasion.
Over the many years of riding and racing motorcycles, I have worn dozens of pairs of boots from many companies, I can confidently tell you that Alpinestars makes some of the best boots in the business. And no, they didn't pay me to say that, they didn't even give us a pair of boots to test.
My 16-month-old pair of Tech 10’s is holding up well to the extreme abuse and elements I have put them through. The soles are looking very worn from all the footpeg abuse, jumping, water soakings, roosting and crashing we have been through. I can remember a time last year where every ride for 8 weeks straight the boots and I were wet to the core, not the boots fault mind you, just the wet places we were exploring. The boots are very water resistant to splashing and puddles, you really have to soak yourself or get water down the top of the boots before your socks feel wet, unlike traditional boots with a sown on sole where a ½ inch water puddle and your socks are wet.
I am starting to notice some stitching coming loose around the top of the boots near the Velcro. The metal buckles are holding up well and just need some TLC. The boots inner ankle protection system probably should be replaced, as the soles are blown out, the stitching is coming out, the joints are loose, and the smell of the booties will drive my wife and daughter right out of the garage. These are all items you would expect to see worn on boots that have seen the amount of abuse I have put the A-Stars through.
The boots provide excellent protection from all impacts. Although, I did break a bone in my left foot last year after a bad get off, I would have broken many more than one had I not been wearing such a good quality boot.
I have wornout many pairs of Tech 8’s in the past and love them to this day. If you want a smaller feeling boot with more room around the controls then stay with the Tech 8’s, if that’s not been a problem for you then give the Tech 10’s a chance.

ALPINESTARS Tech 10 Off Road Boots Press Release Info

Description: With a revised ergonomic design for 2007, the revolutionary construction, styling and development concepts have produced the most streamlined, balanced and protective MX boot yet to hit the market. Offering unrivaled ability to perform at the very highest levels of off-road competition.
TECH 10 KEY FEATURES:
Revolutionary external structure features ultra low-profile design to minimize weight at the lower section of the boot, while its upper design has been revised for 2007 to offer an even more streamlined profile and superior grip against the bike. Lightweight upper combines full-grain leather with impact and abrasion resistant PU shell for unmatched levels of safety. PU guards the toes, foot, heel, ankle, calf and shin with extra hard compounds on the toe-box, heel and Achilles tendon. Innovative PU spine protects the heel, controls flex and features a hyperextension guard.
Innovative biomechanical inner brace provides the ultimate in support and safety. Torsion bars control ankle and leg rotation, while allowing freedom of movement. A replaceable softer compound inner torsion bar is included. This allows the rider to customize the internal ankle brace by adapting the degree of ankle control to further minimize the stress put on the knee. This inner structure features PU protection and shock absorbing padding on the heel and ankles and an ultra thin and flexible forefoot area for increased sensitivity and control. Perforated liner is washable and replaceable.
Upper re-profiles to give a more neutral upright riding position. Ultra comfortable and precision fit interior features new poly fabric lining with open cell foam and a shock absorbing shin pad. Outer side of the boot features anti-torsion PU panel on the ankle for flexibility and support. New PU gasket seals water out of the boot. White model features airflow ventilation system.
Featuring a revised, exclusive dual compound sole, seamlessly integrated to the multi-density foot base structure with built-in support. Sole provides superior durability, grip, feel and a high level of structural rigidity.
Advanced closure system features three techno-polymer and aluminum buckles for easy adjustability with a precise, secure and streamlined fit. Buckles feature memory, a quick release/locking system and a self-aligning design for easy and precise closure. Three buckle system works in conjunction with the entire internal structure to provide excellent support and flexibility.
Inner side of the boot is designed for maximum grip against the bike from top to bottom and features PU panels for heat and abrasion resistance.
